Conflux - One River Project
Speak Percussion, Kim Chalmers & Sally Hederics
Premiere Performance, Mildura, Australia
Conflux, a suite of contemporary dance works, drew inspiration from collected stories of life at the confluence of the great Murray and Darling Rivers. This premiere performance, featuring choreography by Sally Hederics and original music by Kim Chalmers, brought together young dancers to explore ideas of social, cultural and regional identity; looking at how these rivers truly define our community in more ways than simple geography.
Esteemed Melbourne ensemble Speak Percussion performed live as the dancers explored spiritual, human and industrial aspects of the area's unique environment. A contextual thread of water flows throughout the work in reference to its importance as the lifeblood of the Mildura/Wentworth district and so many others like it across the Murray Darling Basin.
Conflux was one of ten community-based One River projects delivered across the Murray Darling Basin. One River was a Centenary of Canberra project, proudly supported by the ACT Government and the Australian Government.
